"My family recently went through the loss of my mom, and our experience with her State Farm agent, John Pitre, was genuinely awful from start to finish. I’m writing this because people deserve to know what they might be walking into. When my mom passed in September, our family contacted John’s office the same day. She had been his client for over a decade. We weren’t expecting special treatment, just basic communication and guidance. Instead, we spent weeks being told John was “busy,” “not available,” or that someone would call us back. No one ever did. Not once. And not a single person in the office offered condolences. We made multiple calls and tried repeatedly to get clarity on the paperwork. Each time, the staff either gave vague answers or acted like even acknowledging our questions was a chore. In the end, we had to file all the documents ourselves because no one from his office would help. After that silence, a letter showed up addressed to my deceased mother claiming she owed money. We called again and got the same “He’s unavailable” responses. Still no condolences. It took nearly a month for John to finally return a call. And when he did, it was clear he had no idea my mom had even passed, despite all the calls and messages we’d left with his staff. He eventually offered condolences, but never addressed the total lack of communication, compassion, or follow-through from his team. I’ve worked in customer-facing industries for over 21 years, including directly with families going through loss. I understand what these moments require, and I also understand how easy it is to show basic human care. What we experienced from this office was the worst I have ever seen both professionally or personally. Losing a parent is already painful. Being ignored, dismissed, and forced to navigate everything alone made this process far more stressful than it ever should have been. In my opinion, this wasn’t just poor service…it was a complete failure of responsibility and compassion. If you’re looking for an insurance agent who will actually support you when it matters most, I strongly recommend choosing a different office."

"After my grandmother passed, our family immediately contacted John’s office for guidance on her life insurance claim. Despite repeated attempts over several weeks, we were met with delays, lack of follow-up, and a complete absence of support. Calls went unanswered, staff repeatedly told us John was “busy,” and we were given no clear guidance on what to do. Ultimately, we had to navigate the claims process on our own. During this time, we even received letters addressed to my grandmother regarding payments owed, which added unnecessary stress to an already emotional situation. When John finally contacted us after nearly a month, it was clear he had been unaware of my grandmother’s passing despite our repeated communications. While he eventually offered condolences, there was no acknowledgment or apology for the lack of communication and support from his office. This experience was not just frustrating—it was hurtful. At a time when families need compassion, guidance, and clear communication, John Pitre’s office failed to deliver. I would strongly advise anyone seeking an insurance agent to look elsewhere."

"Recently my Mother passed and we contacted the office of John Pitre for assistance with completing her insurance claim. Although we reported her passing promptly, we still sought guidance to ensure that all filed paperwork was correct. Numerous calls were made to Mr. Pitre’s office and each time his staff informed us that he couldn’t be reached and we would be called back. Despite our multiple attempts, we never received the expected contact from them. Ultimately, we submitted the required paperwork to initiate the claims process. After a month of no contact from the office, my Mother received mail stating her account was in default. Once again attempted to make contact with Mr. Pitre’s office and left yet another request to speak with him. Not long after, he did contact us and we eventually completed the claims process. For over 11 years Mr. Pitre had been my Mother’s Insurance agent, he wrote her original policy. I completely understand the fact that an insurance agent has many clients, but the communication issues my family and I experienced in this situation astonishes me. The hope was never that our situation should be the sole focus of the office during this process, just that they would do what they told us they would and communicate with us. Nothing about this experience reflects the standards an insurance agent should meet."

"Poor, unprofessional and inconsiderate service from John Pitre and his team. His team constantly made unmet promises, main one being that John would return our numerous calls which quite frankly never happened. It took John over a month to acknowledge the death of our family member. Everyone grieves in different ways, but this service from John Pitre and his staff was appalling and made our lives even more hell over the period after our family member passed. Not to mention us receiving a letter in the post from John claiming our deceased family member owes money. Stay clear of John by all costs truly shocking service."

"In my experience, the service my family received from John Pitre and his team during the most difficult time of our lives was shockingly poor. After my mother passed in September, I notified John’s office immediately. I was told he would call me back—he never did. Over the following weeks, I repeatedly contacted his office for help with the required life-insurance paperwork. Each time, I was told John was “busy,” that someone would call me back, or that the staff “couldn’t make any promises.” No one offered condolences, and no one followed through with support. With no guidance from the agent who was supposed to assist us, I submitted the documents on my own. Ten days later, we received a letter addressed to my deceased mother claiming she owed money. When I called again, I was told—once more—that John was unavailable. Still no condolences. It took nearly a month before John finally returned my call, and I was stunned to learn he had no idea my mother had even passed, despite my repeated attempts to reach him and multiple conversations with his staff. Although he eventually offered condolences, there was no acknowledgment or apology for the lack of care, communication, or professionalism from his team. In my opinion, this office demonstrated a complete lack of compassion, competence, and follow-through at a time when families need clarity and support the most. The defensiveness I encountered when explaining the situation only reinforced that this team is not equipped to handle sensitive matters responsibly. Based on my experience, I strongly recommend choosing a different agent."
"Russell, First and foremost, please accept our deepest condolences on the passing of your mother. Losing a parent is incredibly painful, and we are truly sorry that our service during this difficult time added to your family’s stress. We take your feedback very seriously and have carefully reviewed the file and call records. While our team did promptly provide the required claim forms and instructions after being notified of your mother’s passing, we clearly fell short in several important areas: communication was not as proactive or compassionate as it should have been, follow-up calls were delayed, and—most distressingly—a letter regarding a late premium notice was mailed in error after the death certificate had already been submitted. That should never have happened, and we apologize unreservedly for the added distress it caused. Regarding the claim itself: the paperwork was submitted correctly by your family, but there was an unacceptable delay on the carrier’s side before processing began. Once you brought this to my attention, I personally contacted the claims department, confirmed receipt of all documents, and the beneficiary payment was issued within a few days. We regret that it required your escalation to resolve this quickly, and we are reinforcing procedures with both our office and the carrier to prevent similar delays for others. We are grateful you brought these issues to our attention, and we are using this experience to improve our communication, staff training, and internal notification processes when a policyholder passes away. No family should have to chase answers while grieving. If there is anything further we can do for your family, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me directly. My door is always open.
